Jewellery Care

Your Sheal Jewellery pieces are made to be treasured for a lifetime. To keep them looking their best, here’s how to care for your gold, silver, opals, pearls, and gemstone jewellery.

General Care Tips

  • Always remove jewellery before swimming, showering, exercising, or sleeping.

  • Avoid direct contact with perfume, hairspray, sunscreen, and cleaning chemicals, as they can damage metals and stones.

  • Store your pieces separately in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent scratches.

  • Give your jewellery a gentle wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth after wearing to remove oils and residue.

Caring for Solid Gold Jewellery

  • Solid gold won’t tarnish, but it can still lose its shine over time.

  • To clean, soak your jewellery in warm water with mild dish soap for a few minutes, then gently scrub with a soft toothbrush.

  • Rinse and pat dry with a soft cloth.

  • For deep cleaning or polishing, bring your piece back to us, or take it to a trusted jeweller.

Caring for Sterling Silver Jewellery

  • Sterling silver naturally oxidises over time, creating a darker patina. Some people love this character — but if you prefer a bright finish:

    • Use a silver polishing cloth regularly- you will receive one with each silver piece purchased.

    • Store silver pieces in an airtight container or zip-lock bag to slow tarnishing.

  • Avoid silver dips or harsh cleaners, as they can damage gemstones.

Opal Jewellery Care

We use Australian solid opals — natural stones that require a little extra love:

  • Opals are sensitive to chemicals, perfumes, and extreme heat.

  • Always remove your opal jewellery before showering, swimming, or exercising.

  • Wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth — never soak opals in water or cleaning solutions.

  • Store separately to avoid scratching, as opals are softer than many gemstones.

Pearls & Other Gemstones

  • Pearls are organic and need gentle care. Avoid perfume, hairspray, and acidic products. Wipe them with a damp, soft cloth after wearing.

  • Gemstones like sapphires, tourmalines, spinels, and diamonds are more durable, but they still need care:

    • Clean gently in lukewarm soapy water.

    • Avoid ultrasonic cleaners unless we confirm your stone is safe.

    • Store separately to prevent scratching softer gems.

Repairs & Resizing

Do you offer repairs?

Yes — we offer repairs on Sheal Jewellery pieces. Whether it’s a loose stone, a scratched finish, or a bent setting, send us an email and we’ll provide a repair quote.

Can you resize my ring?

In most cases, yes. Ring resizing depends on the design and materials. Email us at shealjewellery@gmail.com  with your order details, and we’ll confirm if resizing is possible.

Sustainability & Materials

What metals and stones do you use?

We work with solid gold, sterling silver, and ethically sourced Australian opals, pearls, sapphires, tourmalines, spinels, and diamonds. Every stone is chosen carefully to ensure quality, beauty, and longevity.

Is your jewellery handmade?

Yes! Every piece is thoughtfully designed and handcrafted in Australia using traditional jewellery-making techniques, including lost-wax casting, hand-fabrication, and stone setting.
