đź’Ť Wedding Bands FAQ - Your Questions Answered
Choosing your wedding bands is such a special part of your wedding journey, and it’s completely normal to have lots of questions along the way.
Because wedding bands are worn every single day, it’s important they feel comfortable, meaningful, and right for you.
Here are some of the most common questions I’m asked when couples begin the process.
How far in advance should we order our wedding bands?
For custom, handmade wedding bands, I recommend getting in touch at least 3 to 4 months before your wedding date.
This allows time for:
- design consultations
- refining details
- sourcing materials
- making, setting, polishing and finishing your rings
Starting early also means the process feels calm and enjoyable rather than rushed.
How much do wedding bands cost?
Because each ring is handmade and designed specifically for you, pricing varies depending on:
- metal choice (yellow, white or rose gold)
- width and thickness of the band
- texture or special finishes
- whether stones are included
- whether family gold or stones are being reused
Simple wedding bands usually start at a lower price point, while wider or more detailed designs will naturally cost more due to the amount of gold and labour involved.
During your consultation, I’ll always talk you through options so you can find something that suits both your style and your budget.
Can we use our own gold or family jewellery?
Yes — and I absolutely love doing this.
Using family gold or heirloom jewellery in your wedding bands is a beautiful way to carry history and sentiment into your new chapter together. Your gold can be refined and reused, and stones can often be reset into new designs.
Sometimes additional gold is still needed to achieve the desired design and ensure long-term strength, but we’ll always discuss this clearly before moving forward.
Do wedding bands need to match?
Not at all. Some couples love matching wedding bands, while others prefer rings that reflect their individual personalities.
You might choose:
- the same metal but different widths
- similar textures with unique shapes
- completely different styles that still feel connected
There’s no right or wrong — only what feels right for you both.
Can you engrave wedding bands?
Yes, engraving is a lovely way to add an extra layer of meaning to your rings.
Popular engraving ideas include:
- wedding dates
- initials
- short phrases or words
- meaningful symbols
Engraving can be subtle and hidden inside the band, or incorporated into the design itself depending on your preferences.
Will my wedding band sit nicely with my engagement ring?
This is something we always consider in the design process.
If you have an engagement ring, we can:
- design a band that curves to fit neatly alongside it
- match heights and profiles for comfort
- create a band that can be worn alone just as beautifully
If your engagement ring has an unusual setting, a custom-fit wedding band can make all the difference in comfort and appearance.
Can wedding bands be resized later?
Most gold wedding bands can be resized if needed, although designs with stones or complex textures may have some limitations.
Bodies change, and that’s completely normal. I always aim to design rings in a way that allows for future resizing where possible, and I’m happy to advise on the best options for your design.
What makes handmade wedding bands different?
Handmade wedding bands are crafted slowly and intentionally, rather than mass-produced in factories.
This means:
- stronger construction
- thoughtful proportions
- careful finishing
- personal design choices made just for you
Your rings are not just jewellery , they’re small sculptures made to carry your story for a lifetime.
How do we get started?
It begins with a conversation. You don’t need to have everything figured out — we can explore ideas together, look at examples, and shape a design that feels right for you both.
